Project Billinghurst brings together disabled activists, protestors and campaigners to link them with designers, artists and engineers to co- produce designs for leveling the playing field with non-disabled people on street demos, marches and actions.
The project is named after the disabled Suffragette Rosa May Billinghurst and honours her commitment to Civil Disobedience and Direct Action.
Disabled people are an under-served community who face additional challenges when engaging politically. Yet protests, activism and civil engagement are often not considered when developing ideas, practices, tactics & tools for street resistance which are inclusive, accessible and effective.
We need your ideas for items that we can design, develop and produce that will enhance our ability to deal with :-
* Environmental barriers (eg changes in surfaces/surface levels, steps )
* Large crowd activities (sudden movement en masse, communication/decision making)
* Anti protest tactics (Surveillance, kettling, charging etc)
Your ideas might be about improving something that we already use, or something entirely new.
You can get involved by:
* Completing online surveys
* Joining in- person workshops.
* Helping with ideas for open source database of objects
Your best and most usable ideas will be generated, actioned on and publicly released for anyone to build or use.
