I’m a freelance reporter with Metro.co.uk writing a feature highlighting the extent to which Universal Credit is pushing individuals, particularly those with disabilities, towards arrears and, in a number of cases, homelessness
We’ve obtained data which shows an increase in the number of households approaching local authorities as homeless between 2019-21 while claiming Universal Credit, compared to housing benefit.
As part of this, I’m looking to tell the stories of those who have seen their incomes drop (particularly in light of the cost of living crisis), fallen into rent arrears, or faced homelessness due to the complicated nature of Universal Credit payments and the scrapping of the £20-a-week-uplift.
If you’d be interested in sharing your experience, please feel free to email me at oliver@olivergmurphy.co.uk or PM me. Although it would be preferable for interviewees to be named, I’m happy to offer anonymity.
