The government is being urged to restore the rights of disabled people in advance of the House of Commons debate on the six month review of the Coronavirus Act which will take place on 30 September.
The Coronavirus Act passed in March contains provisions allowing local authorities to reduce essential social care duties, weakens support and education for disabled children and young people, and enables the removal of basic legal safeguards that could negatively impact the rights of people coming into contact with the mental health system.
No other group of people had their rights removed under the Act. No other group of people had Do Not Resuscitate notices placed unknowingly on them, no other group had to challenge NICE guidance about who was eligible for treatment. Disability News Service recorded 17 instances where our rights were violated by the Tories. https://www.disabilitynewsservice.com/coronavirus-how-the-government-breached-disabled-peoples-rights-17-times-during-the-pandemic/
Inclusion London and ALLFIE have produced briefings on the impact of the Coronvirus Act on social care and education

Below is a template letter to send to your MP. All you need to do is put in your post code to find your MP and send this and it takes only a couple of minutes. It really couldn’t be easier to help safeguard your future or that of your disabled child.

You can also sign up to an open letter being organised by DRUK but supported by many DDPOs as well. Again this takes seconds to do.
