From CLADDAG: Leaseholders Disability Action Group
Firstly, we want to check you are aware of the Government consultation on evacuation plans for disabled people? There is a tight response deadline of the 19th July. It’s essential that the law is passed and we so desperately need the disabled and older communities to voice their support for this. There will be strong opposition from industry and landlords. We are just agreeing a draft response with key allies and would be happy to share it if this makes it easier for you to respond.
The Home Office are hosting a series of workshops as part of the consultation. We understand only one disabled person was in the room for the first one yesterday. Please consider attending/arranging an organisation rep to do so if you can as we don’t think the Home Office are promoting these sessions. We are happy to share a ‘crib sheet’ if this provides added confidence.
Secondly, we have launched a website this week to raise awareness of our campaign and record our collective progress.
Finally, Channel 4 News ran a piece on the 17th June, on the issues disabled people face, including some of our stories. It can be viewed on our website in ‘News.’ Please share our social media posts if you can.
Any questions, let us know and thanks for your support.
