See below Duncan Smith’s furious response to Frank Field’s letter (chair of the Work and Pensions Committee) about mounting evidence of deaths of social security claimants while Duncan Smith has been in charge.

A spokesperson for DPAC said “The response about why DWP does not collect data about claimant deaths is bullshit. If there is any doubt that welfare reform is causing death it should be checked. Look at the Francis inquiry into NHS deaths as an example, the DWP could do this – they don’t want to

Another spokesperson for DPAC said ” if the polite inquiry from Frank Field sets IDS off like this, just wait till he sees what DPAC has in store for him later on this year “……. watch this space for more information on that in the coming weeks.

So finally we see some angry scrawl at the bottom of the page – we can’t read it, so if anyone wants to have a go at deciphering it, please send it in via the comments below this post. And if there are any graphology experts out there who want to have a go at analysing IDS’s state of mind when he wrote that scrawl – we would love to hear from you via email mail@dpac.uk.net

  1. IDS is not a happy bunny; he’s an ostrich!

  2. I have for a long time studied, albeit from afar, Iain Duncan Smith and it’s like he has an antisocial personality disorder.. Leaning heavily towards the psychpathic side .. He has no conscience of the harm he’s directly causing and lies constantly, with no moral qualms. He has no empathy. He thinks he’s correct in everything he’s doing, no matter how much it’s been proven he’s wrong and the reforms are, in fact, incredibly harmful. Having psychpathic tendencies doesn’t necessarily mean he’s physically violent.. But he certainly causes plenty of harm. And too many people have died.. He won’t ever take the responsibility for it even though a fool can see the correlation between his cuts and the thousands of deaths! I don’t even believe he’ll ever be prosecuted for his crimes against humanity.. He will always be protected, by whichever government is in and even if a case against him should reach court it’ll be slung out on some none existent ‘technicality’. All in it together .. That statement has never included the ordinary people .. They (the government) are all in it, right up to their grubby little necks! And they’ll stand by each other through thick and thin. If they should throw one of their ilk under the train it could well be their downfall as well! So they all will keep their traps shut!

    • Then he is a bit like Freud the banker and Purnell now a director of the BBC.

Two of the people who brought us Unum Provident and the WCA

  3. the other part is that you can tell a person’s sanity by the state of there writing, this is reflected in Hitler’s’ final years, where his signature was a scrawl, so be safe in the knowledge that by looking at this hard to decipher scribble and my writing is not that great, that ids maybe need a psychiatric assesssment, george Osbourne’s Brother has just been banned from Practice so he got lots of spare time on his hands, one less on the unemployment list, he could be assessing minister for fitness to be mp’s.

  4. He needs to go back to school to learn basic handwriting. If I wrote like that when i was in school the teacher would make me re write it. Where did he go to school as he failed on his handwritting I’ve seen kids write better than that

  5. As a retired mental health (qualified) worker I have commented on several forums about how damaging the WCA is to people with severe mental health problems. As for IDS and his rambling comments about the history of WCA he misses the fact that there are numerous stories of people who have died during or shortly after the WCA
His scribbled repetition of points made earlier shows he is under pressure and out of touch with the reality of the cosequences his actions. This kind of denial and loss of touch with reality can be indicative of mental health problems but only a period of observation and examination by those qualified to do so can determine if he is a danger to himself or others. The two criteria that used to be applied to determine if someone should be detained. My view he is that he is a danger to others and should be removed from his post

  6. I get the gist…As easy to decipher as my DRs handwriting?

  7. regardless of what he says, the link in between suicides and such is still there, in my previous voluntary role that covered vunerable adults and meeting at which i attended mental health public meetings, the biggest theme was these medicals and as in my case the fact that the person examining me stated he was assessing me for mental health, yet the dwp and atos are not forthcoming with the qualifications and hide behind the freedom of information act to reveal the qualifications except to say that they have 5 weeks training at atos, despite taking my case to tribunal and winning i still had to sign on, or have a discussion not with a dba at dwp, this was on the third floor and i had a panic attack, I want ot see them talking about that when i take them to task over it, retrospectively and this is the bit i am going to concentrate on, I know the qualifications of the nurse involved and lets just say his ability to examine a person on mental health grounds is questionable, i want to see if they can finally admit that he was not qualified when i put my complaint in an if they cant well see them at a bmc tribunal when there under oath.

  8. Why can’t the asshole ids become sick and disabled, maybe then he just might understand us, also the TORIES are just like piranha, they kill the THIER own sick and disabled and eat them.

  9. I’ll have a go at translating it:

“I’m a repugnant faux-aristocrat who’s entitlement to privilege is exceeded only by his sociopathic hatred for the poor and those less well off”.

    Is that accurate?

  10. I’m no graphologist but the way Smith writes ‘I’ in a half parenthesis it looks like a bullet point no1…..just observing.

  11. Thank you all for your heroic efforts in transcription which had utterly defeated me, a diagnosed spastic with 60 years experience of deciphering his own appalling hand.

Mr Smith is like all bullies a craven coward. Remember his attendance at a committee meeting where ‘The Disabled’ were in attendance, wearing a black leather coat, flanked by a squad of armed plod!

As to the content of his scrawl, I don’t believe that the committee will be terribly interested in what he hopes, but rather in what is.

  12. Same old song that every party sings. Blame the other lot. No wonder ordinary people despair of politics . A pop at the media of course . And then a plea for a recognition of all the good work done by those engaged in this difficult area ie him. Haven’t read language like this since my job in the civil service. And my bet thats who wrote it.

  13. The Labour Party may well have introduced the WCA but it wasn’t them who corrupted it into the thing of torture suffering and lies it now is!

  14. IDS seems a little worried.

“I note that having introduced the ESA and the WCA, the Labour Party now seeks to attack it as though they had nothing to do with it.”

If I am guilty of killing claimants you are too, we will go down together.

Isn’t it funny how when there is evidence people are being made mentally ill and killing themselves “it is impossible to demonstrate causation”

On the other hand when there is evidence GOOD work has a beneficial effect it is twisted to apply to the WCA and their enforced tests and forcing ill people into work.

  15. Good to know that that he places extra cost and increased workload over the lives of vulnerable people when considering whether to collect information over the deaths of benefit claimants! They stand time and time again in Parliament claiming a strong economy yet they can’t afford to properly assess the cumulative impact of their policies on disabled people nor even look into why people might be dying while claiming benefit. Well looking at my family, if we didn’t bother looking after our disabled and challenging child, we could claim to be better off as well!

  16. NB: There are some out there in the media and social media who have used the raw figures to accuse the govt of outrageous action. I would hope that the committee would not seek to follow suit. I note that having introduced the ESA and the WCA the Labour Party now seeks to attack it as though they had nothing to do with it. Surely the committee should seek to recognise the good intent of those engaged in this difficult area.

    • Why should anyone have to SEEK to recognise good intent? Wouldn’t it be a bit more visible than that?

And if there had been any, why would the DWP have gone to such lenghts to have hidden it so that they would attract unwanted criticism?

Good intent is generally recognised from the presence of well-intended actions. And people generally only start referring to it when their actions have backfired disasterously. It is then that we hear “but I MEANT well… my intentions were good”.

So referring to good intent at all is an admission that the DWP’s outcomes have been anything but.

And the suggestion that people must “seek for” invisible good intentions, seems to be an unethical intention to predjudice the work of the committee by suggesting they place a DWP-style spin on their findings.

  17. its called aktion t4 rolling on without much of a ado yep while they argue back and forth more will surcumb to this dreadfull abuse by government minister who should really be up before the beak yes there be more discussions on this in the side rooms of in the house of ill repute it seems humanity isnt listening to the crys of those being denied their rights on it rolls aktion t4 without much of a ado jeff3

  18. Not sure I want to admit to being able to read it, in case that means my mind works the same way as IBS’ does!

  19. Suicide notes have indicated casual effect .

  20. The families of the people who have had their lives cut short by IDS will be delighted that he had good intent, talk about the banality of evil. He, and his cronies really are the lowest of the low. There should be a law that holds MPs to account for pursuing policies that they know will lead to the deaths of their own citizens, I mean a real punishment including prison time, murder by proxy, is still murder. I don’t use that word for hyperbole, the actions of these “people” is criminal.

    • Duncan Smith could always be charged with corporate manslaughter, in fact I suspect that could apply to any MP involved with DWP policy.

  21. “NB: There are some out there in the media and social media who have used new figures to cause this sort of outrageous action. I would hope that the committee would not seek to follow suit. I note that having introduced the ESA and the WCA, the Labour Party now seeks to attack it as though they had nothing to do with it. Surely the committee should seek to recognise the good intent of those engaged in this difficult area.”

    • Yeah, “new” could be “raw”.

    • Labour may have instigated the WCA, and to say it was`nt working is rubbish, yes there were problems to start off, and policies and procedures changed, as they do, at least they did`nt scrap it, or waste the amount of public money that IDS has, its appalling, he should be removed from his office.
Lets not forget who advises claimants to apply for these benefits, the DWP, CAB, ect, then there are the Doctors and Consultants who provide the Medical expertise, then the DWP question a decision made by the medical professional, do they not trust a professional who has years of experience, and would rather take a medical report submitted by a Pysiotherapist, who is not qualified to prepare such a report, they would rather submit lies, and it has been proved in court, so why continue with such a waste of money, giving money to a foreign company with a negative attitude, millions each year, a disgrace !!

      • ” and would rather take a medical report submitted by a Pysiotherapist, ”
it is not a MEDICAL report
tick box one size fits all which is designed to make claimants fail
        zero points is the norm

    • *to accuse the govt of outrageous action..*

  22. He says it’s all Labour’s fault 🙂

  23. My attempt at deciphering the scrawl:

NB: There are some out there in the media and social media who have used (dunno) figures to accuse(?) the govt(?) of outrageous action. I would hope that the Committee would not seek to follow suit. I note that having introduced the ESA and the WCA, the Labour party now seeks to attack it as though they had nothing to do with it. Surely the Committee should seek to recognise the good intent of those engaged in this difficult area.

IDS as the wise monkeys: Sees no evil, hears no evil, speaks a whole lot of f*cking evil.

  24. NB.There are some out there in the media and social media whi have used new(?)figures to accuse the Government of outrageous action ! I would hope the Committee would not seek to follow.suit. ?? being introduced the ESA and WCA,the Labour Party now seeks to attack it as though they had nothing.to.do with it.Sutely the Committee should seek to recognise the good intent of those engaged in this.difficult area.

  25. Looks like ‘There are some out there in the media and social media who have used raw figures to accuse the Govt of outrageous action. I would hope that the committee would not seek to follow suit. I note that having introduced (the?) ESA and the WCA, the Labour Party now attempts to attack it as though they had nothing to do with it. Surely the committee should seek to recognise the good intent of those engaged in this difficult area.’

Got used to reading diabolical handwriting as a benefits adviser deciphering HCP reports prior to computerisation!
