SOCIAL CARE LOBBY DAY ACTIONS AND ADVICE
TIME FOR ACTION ON SOCIAL CARE
Tuesday 19th July, 2022

PLEASE NOTE: THAT DUE TO THE SEVERE WEATHER WARNING AND THE CLOSURE OF PORTCULLIS HOUSE THE FSCC SOCIAL CARE LOBBY DAY WILL NOW TAKE PLACE ON LINE
Online event 14:30-16:00

Due to the extreme (RED) weather warnings, we have decided to switch the FSCC SOCIAL CARE LOBBY DAY to a virtual online event.

We still want hundreds of you to take part and shout out for all those who care and make it clear that we need to #GetSocialCareDone

There are still plenty of ways for you to show your support for the social care workforce and help us get the #GetSocialCareDone message heard on Social Care Lobby Day on 19th July.

PLEASE help us shout out for social care workers and show you care for those who care – wherever you are!

PLEASE join MPs and supporters at the FSCC SOCIAL CARE LOBBY DAY ONLINE and take the following actions:

THINGS YOU CAN DO

There are lots of ways you can show your support:

1. WRITE TO YOUR MP AND/OR GET A MEETING

Use the template letter here and send to your MP and other Parliamentarians and Peers.

If you don’t know who your MP is – please click here and insert your postcode.

PLEASE USE LETTER TEMPLATE

Just insert the name of your MP and insert your signature/s and your reply email and/or postal address.  You can send this letter as an individual or from a group or organisation – but make sure your postcode is in the MP’s constituency. The aim is for you to secure a 1-2-1 meeting with your MP and get them to show their support for the FSCC Social Care Lobby Day asks and actions.  You can personalise it and also add your story.

2.  TELL US YOUR STORY

We want to gather hundreds of true “stories” from those who work in OR draw on social care, about the issues they are facing.  The stories should represent your personal story/experience/perspective on what’s happening in social care and/or stories from your organisation about the pressures placed on the social care workforce and those who draw on social care.  Please speak out and tell MPs and Peers, what it’s truly like on the forgotten frontline.

Please send the FSCC and/or tweet short (circa 2minute or 300words) written, video or audio stories here or using the hashtag #PayFairforCare or #GetSocialCareDone and we will add them to our gallery here. These will be uploaded on to the FSCC website and also used to highlight the real issues and crisis in Social Care.

3. PLEDGE YOUR SUPPORT

We want to get as many people as possible – including MPs, Peers and “celebrities” to show their support.  A simple action but we want to see 1000s of sign-ups to show how many people really care.

·     Pledge your support here

·     Send the Pledge Card to your MP and ask them to sign

·     Circulate and ask your members, colleagues, celebrity contacts, friends and family to show their support for social care

You can download here – or sign the pledge here

4.  SIGN OUR LETTER TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE

Tell the Secretary of State it’s time to #GetSocialCareDone

·     Please contact us here if you would like to add your name to our letter to the Secretary of State here.

·     Ask your MP to sign-up and/or to send a letter to the the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to support the FSCC’s pledges and key asks.

·     Circulate or forward the link to the letter to others and encourage them to sign

This is a live action on the day and the more signatures we can get the better – so please share.

5. ASK YOUR MP TO TAKE ACTION ON SOCIAL CARE

There a number of things you can ask your MP to do.  We want them to demonstrate their support our campaign to #GetSocialCareDone

·     Ask them to sign the pledge card

·     Write to the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Health and Social Care

·     Sign our letter to the PM

·     Ask them to table a PQ and/or raise your concerns in Parliament

·     Send a Press Release to their local press demonstrating their support – see template here.

6. HELP GET THE MESSAGE OUT THERE

The FSCC Social Care Lobby Day is about making noise and making sure that Government gets the message. So please Tweet and ReTweet

The KEY MESSAGES we need to get across are:

·     Social Care matters to everyone and benefits everyone at some point in their lives – so #PayFair4Care

·     Social Care is NOT done or FIXED #GetSocialCareDone

·     Social Care is in CRISIS

·     Social Care workers are disproportionately affected by the cost-of-living crisis and are struggling to live on their pay

·     There is a social care emergency – upwards of 150,000 vacancies and rising

·     There is a chronic lack of capacity in the social care system – it was already in crisis before the pandemic and now it’s at tipping point

·     The retention and recruitment emergency must be addressed as a matter of urgency

·     Social Care workers need to be properly recognised and rewarded if we are to stop the churn in retention and recruitment vacancies

·     It’s time for a fair deal and fair pay – it’s time for action

·     A fully funded and long-term solution must be found to #FIXSOCIALCARE

·     It makes moral and economic sense to pay the REAL LIVING WAGE

·     Social Care workers pay and conditions should be on par with those in the NHS who do a similar job

·     Social Care needs to be FIXED and fit for purpose

·     Social Care can be fixed by social care workforce reform – It IS POSSIBLE and FAIR to pay the Real Living Wage across the sector #PayFair4Care

·     It is time for Government to act on Social Care – given the scale of the emergency the response is not enough

Please use these messages and #Hashtags – #FSCC #PayFairforCare #GetSocialCareDone #TimeForAction when lobbying your MP, sending letters or emails AND reference the Social Care Lobby Day via your social media channels and local media.  Help us raise the profile by retweeting and getting sign up for the PLEDGES, letter to the Prime Minister and ask your MP to Tweet their support via Facebook and video clips.  Please use the FSCC branding and Social Care Lobby Day branding and tweet and say, “I’m supporting the Social Care Lobby Day because INSERT A KEY MESSAGE” from the list above.

7.  SHOW YOU CARE FOR SOMEONE WHO CARES

Other than sign up to the FSCC Pledges and letter to the Prime Minister, we want as many people as possible to show they care for someone who cares.

We want to secure photo opportunities and a memorable and thought provoking images. If you are holding an event or session locally let us know here. Keep send us your photos, videos and stories

If you work in social care OR are someone who draws on social care please send us a photo for our “I CARE FOR SOMEONE WHO CARES” GALLERY on the FSCC Website.  Please send us a photograph of someone who is a social care worker or of a person who is/or has been cared for.  “Selfies” and other photographs can go on our gallery. The more photos the better and also can accompany YOUR STORY. Upload and send here.

Please send us a photograph on the day or create your own photo opportunity.  We want to get the message across that Social Care impacts on everyone at some point in their lives.

8. JOIN US AT THE SOCIAL CARE LOBBY DAY ONLINE ON THE DAY

  • Call your MP’s office ahead of the lobby and ask them to join you ONLINE and show their support.

  • Between 1430 and 1600 there will be a rally of speeches from MPs and other key members of the coalition –  who are supporting the Social Care Lobby Day – PLUS your stories and videos and messages being shown.  Please participate – there will be plenty of live actions and great speeches.

  • We want MPs and everyone to sign the pledge, send their photo and gather as many messages of support.  Please send us your true stories here.

  • Send us a photo of someone who cares or who is cared for to the  I CARE FOR SOMEONE WHO CARES GALLERY here.

  • Send a Press Release and/or get your MP to send a Press Release – see template here.

We want the 19th to be a BIG SHOUT OUT for Social Care

HELP US SPREAD THE WORD:  IT’S TIME TO FIX SOCIAL CARE!
