All of my adult life I have been in the unfortunate situation of making requests to the local Social care sector. Each time I have been refused help for some stupid reason. Every reason they gave for rejecting my claim for help was not just wrong but caused me so much stress it affected my health badly. I knew people in my situation got the help I was asking for with no problem.
I applied for help with getting a shower installed. I am totally blind with neurological medical conditions. A social worker rejected my calaim because one day I could walk from my gate to my front door. I did explain how the walking affected meafter I had walked that little bit. My pleas were ignored completely. Fortunatly a Housing officer in the local Council who knew me supported me and the council paid for a wet room to be installed.
More recently and worrying is that I have been diagnosed with heart failure and damaged kidneys. I get ilf to help with care and was told by the local authority social care to sack my carer immediatly and hire the coluncil to continue the care. Surely this is against the law but I can’t find any lawyer who will take on my case. I haven’t sacked my carer yet and don’t intend to.
The attitude of the social care person was one of sheer indignance and total control. There was no sense of empathy, reality or any manner of kindness or understanding. There was no reason given of any kind except that they wanted their own people in the care position. People I didn’t know.
I have had some carers in the past who have stolen things from me. So trust is an important part of my life. Not all carers are like that by any means. The majority are superb and do a thankless job, often being paid well below the norm.
