If you or someone you know has been in a situation where their council has disallowed them to remain in their council or social housing property on the death of their parents, when they had a clear reason, due to disability that they needed to remain there, we want to hear from you.
For instance this might be that adaptations had been made to the property that would not be possible to replicate elsewhere, or where the resident has Autism or a Learning Impairment such that they need the consistency and stability of staying in the place that they know and having to move would place them in mental distress
if you know of any cases like this, please get in contact with us at mail@dpac.uk.net
My Brother-in-law 59 learning disabled, and his sister 55 learning disabled are currently living with eviction over their heads due to the death of their mother. Had to threaten to sue social services to get them needs assessments. They don’t have carers or know how to claim benefits. I’m Autistic with learning difficulties my husband is trying his best but has memory, mental health and learning difficulties himself. Losing their mother is still traumatising them 4 months on. A Birmingham Council worker came out after their mother died and conned them into signing to end their mothers tenancy telling them they would be allowed to stay. Social services are now arranging capacity tests but the uncertainty is causing mental harm.
