Claddag advocates for disabled people caught up in the building safety scandal, which came to light after the tragic events at Grenfell Tower. The group’s co-founders, Sarah Rennie and Georgie Hulme, have started court proceedings against the Home Secretary for paying a highly influential company to write guidance on the evacuation of disabled people when that company expressly opposes disabled people’s right to an evacuation plan. They maintain this view despite the fact that over 40% of disabled people who lived in Grenfell Tower died without an evacuation plan.

Last July, legal action by the bereaved family of a disabled Grenfell resident forced the Home Office to consult on the evacuation of disabled people from blocks of flats. However, no conclusions from that consultation have ever been published.

Sarah and Georgie have created a template letter which they are asking disabled people to send to their MP demanding the Home Office to take this seriously and show support from their legal action. You can find out more and download the letter from their website here
