The lives we as disabled people live today are built upon the foundations laid down by our community over decades. The ability to work and travel, to take part in community life at all, are only there because our community put their bodies on the line and took to the streets.

That’s the story we tell. That’s our message.
When we huddle together in the streets to create a space for our voices and stories to be heard – we are the messengers.

There’s a tradition reaching back as far as we can trace, that society’s at war, committing savage brutality and atrocities on one another, would pause and make way for messengers.

Because they brought a way out, the potential to create a better future. And to silence them was to continue to destroy lives and societies.

That future still hasn’t arrived.

And never will when this bill goes through.

We don’t know where we are going from here. Where we are is bad enough.

But it doesn’t look good. This bill will criminalise disabled people who are telling their stories. It will stop those stories from being heard. And enable the harm to go on.

Our message to our community is that there is a space for you, made by you.
Our message to the world is that we demand more from you. And expect more.

And we are calling on Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper today, to do their fucking jobs.

To do what they were elected to do. And stand with the messengers. And not allow them to be silenced.
