The Mirror are calling for people to share their experiences of Universal Credit. The government intends to increase the amount of job centres administering the benefit despite the numerous problems; an inbuilt delay of 42 days for the first payment, rising rent arrears and soaring food bank usage. No fewer than 15 conservative MPs have called for the benefit to be paused, but their pleas were ignored.

If you (or anyone you know) has been affected by this benefit, please consider sharing your experiences (you can request anonymity) For more information click here: (you need to scroll to the bottom of the screen).

  1. I am contacting you as I have had big Problems with Universal Credit my situation is that I had to move from my old property in Lambeth – Croydon & as a result was forced to claim Universal Credit orginally only for my Rent, I have severe Mental Health Issues & the impact of claiming Universal Credit has impacted on my Mental Health.

To cut along story short I moved to my new address on 25th July & contacted DWP ESA & Universal Credit on 27th July to make a claim & was told by Universal Credit that I should phone ESA & do a change of address & for my rent claim this from Croydon Council I spent nearly 3 hours on phone being pushed from Department – Department only to get no where, I the conatcted Croydon Council regarding my Rent & was told no you don’t contact us for this but Universal Credit so why did Universal Credit give me complletly wrong information by the time I got round to making a Universal Credit Claim it was then the 13th August, however the problem is that I was only being paid my Housing Element from 13th August & not the 25th July when I took my Tenancy, so I requested backdating of my Housing Element to 25th July on 25th August, I then received a decision notice on 31st August attached saying they couldn’t award me the Housing Element from 25th July & that I should have known the claims procedure & claimed earlier & that they couldn’t take into account that I had been given wrong information & I should have been responsible for claiming earlier a Laugh considering that I was misadvised by people working with the system.

I then requested a Mandatory Reconsideration on 12th September 2017 to ask them to again look @ my request as felt they had overlooked relevant information, however today 26th September I received the Mandatory Reconsideration Decision advising me that the orginal was upheld & couldn’t ber changed yetr again sayimg they couldn’t take in to account that I had been given wrong information they expect people to know the system when they don’t even know it & are trained on it @ Tax Payers expenses, the whole process from start to finish has been a shamballs, I was also first told when I claimed that I would need to have a further WCA despite on their Website saying if you have an existing award it transfers over without the need for a further WCA they also requested that I provide a Fit Note even though I was already in Support Group they have now accepted that I am in Support Group but since this have transfered me from Income Related ESA to Contribution Based ESA & without telling me have cut my Severe Disability Premium of £62.45 a week plus £15.30 Disability Income Guarentee this was done without even telling me.

I have found the whole process of claiming Universal Credit a complete distressing experience, I am attaching you ll the relevant notification Letters & give you full permissiom to use these as eveidence on 10th October.

My last hope is the Council who my Job Coach wrote to on 12th September to consider them paying me Housing Beneift between 25th July – 12th August if this fails basically I have lost 19 days rent that of nearly £500.00 that I can ill afford to loose.

It seems they apply the rules to suit themselfs without the thought of the impact it has on the people claiming.

And now despite explaining my Mental State I am yet again being harresed by ESA to complete yet another ESA50 despite telling them that I have nearly killed myself they are still insisting that I complete this Form yet again when I have explained nothing is going to change this is clearly a breach of Human Rights.

Just the thought of having to complete yet another ESA50 form is making me want to end my life

    Kind regards
