Many years ago there used to be a brilliant free Science Museum in Birmingham where I and my then Kids spent many happy and educational hours but then the council decided to sell it off and privatise the museum. It is now at Millenium Point and is still instructive and fun but for many families no longer affordable. I’m only really telling you this so you can see how important it is to continue to have free and valuable assets that belong to us where we can go and look at all sorts of things for free, although I guess most of you think the same way anyhow.
Now the National Gallery in London is threatened with privatisation – it could go the way of the Science Museum and we may no longer be able to afford to go and look at all of our paintings. Added to that staff pay and conditions would also worsen which is bad news for anyone living in London.
Today staff at the gallery went on indefinite strike to try to halt this privatisation. They are asking for support and have said

DPAC will be supporting this action and have chosen Friday, August 14th 5-6.30 pm to join the strikers.
As Legal Aid in Family Law abolished last year, couldn’t stop my son being moved 120 miles away. Now having to pay bulk of his fares to maintain contact and feed him when he’s here. Managed to find 3 weeks work last year, but being on Pension Credit the DWP now taking it all back at £124 per month, so despite being a Government for “Hard working people” I can’t even work my way out’ve this trap. After spending all my savings on lawyers over the last 11 years, I have a court order for contact that’s almost impossible to implement. I’m 68 and have never witnessed this level of Government and corporate greed before. If Cameron had postponed HS2 he could’ve had a whole term of office without touching the welfare bill.
Not content with destroying everyday lives, (NHS, public services, benefit cuts, rip off utility companies, etc ad nauseum) – next on the list comes the Arts; music, theatre, libraries, ANYTHING to uplift our spirits, free us from the maelstrom of misery inflicted upon those who deserve it least. DREAM ON CAMERON.
All the cuts, all the threats, all the everything! used by your government to spread fear, hatred, set one upon the other, ‘dumb the people down’, won’t work; The discriminated, discredited, discouraged, disadvantaged, disheartened, depressed, devalued people of this country are stronger, tougher than you think: unlike you, (THANKS to you!) – rich boy fool – they know the meaning of struggle like never before. They eat it for breakfast, when there’s nothing else on the table. They rise on hope born of faith they see in the courage of others, also a victim of your cruel game. If anyone is ‘disabled’ it’s not those in wheelchairs or waving white sticks, it’s YOU and your Tory tosser conmen bleeding this country dry. That’s what I call SICK!
