The ILF in England will close on 30th June (Scotland, Wales & NI have decided to continue with funding their own ILF’s). This will be the final opportunity to lobby our national public repesentativites to repeal the decision before the Fund is shut. From the 1st July all responsibility for the Fund will be in the hands of local Councils.
Councils will receive funding for 1 year, with no obligation to spend that money on Social Care for those users. Many Councils have already had to make savage cuts to disabled people’s care budgets because of the scale of cuts to their own budgets. The shrinking of eligibility criteria, the introduction of 15 minute care visits and drastic increase in charges for Social Care have massively reduced many disabled peoples ability to take a full part in society; with less than 4 in 10 people who need support getting any at all – never mind the right support to live independently.
Disabled people have a right to live independently in the community under article 19 of the UN Covention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The closure of this fund is a direct breach of this right – and we must fight to defend it – and all of our rights. Disabled people have fought many battles over many decades for equality and inclusion and the ILF is fundamental to those ideas. Without an ILF local Councils have already recognised that people will have to be institutionalised in homes in order for Councils to be able to guarantee any basic level of care.
We must resist this . We cannot allow disabled people to be imprisoned for the crimes of the bankers and the financial elites. We must stand together to end these rights abuses – and call for this decision to be repealed and the ILF re-opened to all.
So please join the lobby. Bring families, friends, co-workers, neighbours, supporters and allies. Ask to lobby your local MP (information and guidance available on the day) and tell them that the closure of the ILF is unacceptable.
Experience from previous lobbies have shown us that getting into and out of the Houses of Parliament can take a while, especially when there are large numbers of wheelchair users/disabled people. Please make sure you bring whatever you need to be comfortable while waiting. This could include water, meds, snacks etc.

We’d like to come, though we’re pretty sure our MP won’t see us. Have written to him many times about the ILF closure, but he won’t address any of the points we raised. He’s just an old Tory dinosaur, there’s absolutely no common ground whatsoever.
Believe it or not, there is a petition out there for the north of England to secede and be ruled by Scotland.
The SNP have kept austerity cuts from Scotland, whilst siding with the Tories for austerity in England.
Labour are neither use nor ornament in England.
Another petition calls for the north of England to secede from London rule, as a separate nation.
If it is people’s will, might not the beginnings of a new party that is more movement to save lives whilst doing the tasks in-house to become all the politics thing to run a government.

Being mobility challenged, I never got the little £20 a week lower mobility of DLA, that would have gone straight back to government (and other people in turn) from the premium tax on mobility scooter insurance, and all the taxes on your car, that include 60 per cent of each price of a litre of petrol.
Nor did I get the support component of Employment and Support Allowance, that would have gone to support local business to put a walk in shower, as my osteo arthritis makes it harder and harder to get out of the bath, even though it has an integral seat in the design.
Unable to work as both disabled and chronic sick, being a woman denied state pension payout on top from 2013 from 60 to 66, so retirement money denied after a lifetime in work til at least 2019 onwards.
Then even worse happens to over half of new pensioners with the flat rate pension. Lowest forecast seen so far is £8.39 per week after 45 years work for a man living in Scotland.

ILF closing has been a nightmare for my son, Luke and me. At first they cut his budget by £700 a week. They eventually agreed the original amount he was getting before ILF closed, but then the Health Authority cut his budget from almost £3000 a month to £14 as that say that after 18 years of needing complex manual handling, he no longer needs it. Luke is quadriplegic and blind. He has very severe contractures and necrosis of his hips. He has got worse, not better. I am suffering from stage 3 cancer, and am 74 years of age. All this has left me depressed and distraught. I don’t know how we are going to manage.
The State are literally covering up the killing of disabled people… By media manipulation and gagging the cards are stacked against this and all other vulnerable groups… a docile and brainwashed public looks on. It will not stop there! Terminations will no longer be voluntary. It must be challenged by all means possible. The law makers are committing crimes against humanity with impunity… Records and documentation of this crime with the compliance of the public will not be allowed to continue… we owe it to each other, our brave loved ones and future generations to make a stand against State aggression … Silence is not an option.
