You might have heard the news that our energy bills are due to rise AGAIN next month. Our policy expert Jonathan Bean has been on the news taking aim at how spectacularly Labour has broken their manifesto promise to bring down bills.
But anyone who knows FPA knows we won’t take it lying down. In fact, we’re taking the call right to Labour Conference!
On the same day your bills rise again, October 1st, Keir Starmer is due to give his big closing speech to Conference. With the spotlight on Liverpool and hundreds of MPs, press and camera crews gathering, we’re going to make some noise of our own.
With incomes squeezed and support barely touching the edges, 1 in 5 of us are struggling to heat our homes or use life-saving medical equipment.
We know that this is a political choice. It’s far from impossible for this government to bring down bills, in fact energy pricing is rigged and driving us into poverty while firms like Centrica and SSE profit.
Labour could deliver Energy For All and meet everyone’s needs:
– Stop the gas rip off by delinking the price of cheap, renewably generated electricity from the much higher cost of gas
– Distribute excess power from the wind and sun for use by people who need it
– Improve homes to slash energy bills with proper heating systems, insulation and access to free solar generation

LABOUR! STOP SUPPORTING TORY POLICIES
When a Labour government swept to power in 1997, it could have restored those rights which had been under attack since the 1970s. Instead it chose to ally itself with corporate tax-shirkers, company bosses, grasping landlords and rich investors, to turn Britain into a paradise for the privileged.
Now we have a Coalition intent on breaking open every last part of our public services for private profit, and threatening millions of us with homelessness and destitution. Yet Miliband and Co. just stand on the side-lines or actively cheer it on, because Labour still agrees with every cut, every sell off, and every assault on the rights of working people.
Labour supports cuts in the name of austerity. Despite the fact that the financial crisis was due to the gambling of greedy unregulated bankers and that trillions of pounds was spent on bailing them out, it has been used as an excuse to launch a vicious attack on the public sector. Since the crisis the income of top earners has rocketed while the rest of us face frozen pay, crippled services, and job and housing insecurity.
Labour scorns those reliant on benefits. It was Labour that introduced US-style workfare schemes, which it still approves of, and employed Atos to force the sick and disabled off benefits through the iniquitous work capability assessment. No wonder Liam Byrne is promising to help the Tories salvage the shambles of Universal Credit, which is planned to punish all those on low incomes.
Labour supports privatisation. Hardly surprising, after all it introduced academy schools, tuition fees, NHS foundation trusts and the Private Finance Initiative. Labour talks of saving the NHS in 2015 – but there won’t be anything left to save.
When will Labour stop embracing Tory policies and remember who it is supposed to represent. We already have one major party for the wealthy and privileged, we don’t need another.
LABOUR IS CALLED ‘THE OPPOSITION’
TIME TO ACT LIKE IT!
The Labour party conference starts in Liverpool on Saturday. As we all know, Labour were the architects of Employment Support Allowance and the ‘not fit for purpose’ Work Capability Assessment which is so stressful and traumatic it was linked to the suicide of claimants whilst Labour were still in power. The Labour party are the official party of opposition, but they are not opposing the Welfare Reform Bill as they should be and seem to have forgotten that the 10 million sick and or disabled people plus carers, friends and family in the UK have the power to vote. It is time for us to remind Labour that they will not get any of our votes if they do not start to oppose the parts of the Welfare Reform Bill set to return sick people, disabled people and carers to a life of desperation, dependency, despair and charity.
We are asking you to help with a mass email to the Labour party to remind them of our voting power. Please include the following details in your email and send it to Ed Miliband, Margaret Curran (shadow minister for disability) and Liam Byrne (shadow minister for DWP). If you have time please also email it to any Labour MP and particularly any members of the shadow cabinet. We have provided a list of email contacts below.
Please aim to send your email at 11am tomorrow (Thursday the 22nd September) If you can’t send the email at 11am, don’t worry, just please try to send it at any time between then and the end of Labour party conference on Wednesday 29th September.
