Sure these changes are terrifying, but you need to bear in mind ……………….
- None of the changes being talked about in the news can happen before at least 2025
- There is going to be an election before then so it’s likely the changes will never happen at all
- In the worst case, if the Tories manage to win the election or Labour win and propose similar changes, we will fight it in the courts and in the streets along with our many allies
- Ellen Clifford from DPAC is already taking the government to court over the consultation, that is happening now and we will throw every legal challenge we can at this

I think it will be easy for us to forget about this and we are distracted by Christmas. Its important we mobilize and respond. This is the biggest threat to to disabled people yet.
Its not like we got a letter from the dwp explaining that if we want help to explore doing a small amount of work in a safe space the DWP can now facilitate this and had a special list of jobs to make it easy for us.
Our introduction to this is that we have been told we will be declared a jobseeker and the amount of people who can be sanctioned is going to increase. And that people who are declared job seekers will have their accounts closed and have to pay for prescriptions if they do not follow the demands of someone with no medical knowledge who is trying to meet targets.
The fact that Jeremy Hunt is making no attempt to explain what is going to happen is ominous. He knows people are deeply traumatised and frightened and is offering no response to that.
What should be happening is a nice dwp letter explaining the plan and asking for feedback. In other words a large scale public consultation.
Thank you. I had a massive panic attack after the news about this because I know that if I’m forced to look for work, I’ll end up homeless or worse.
Being reminded that there’s a good chance it won’t happen and that even if it does, it’ll be fought every step of the way, is a big comfort.
Thank you DPAC, the proposals from the Autumn statement are frightening for many of us, just completely unworkable. Thank you for reminding us that these ghastly policies may never come about.
Thank you so much for this, I really needed to hear it today, as I had been getting so deflated, angry & upset about it all. I know the Tories love to put this out there, partly so they can backtrack a bit & they know it distresses people.
