You may have seen by now that the #BigPowerOff campaign has grown beyond anything we could’ve imagined.
What started with an idea from DPAC Sheffield as a way for those of us who can’t leave the house much, or at all, to be able to have our voices heard during the cost of living crisis and horrific rise in household energy prices has now been reported on in all four nations, by numerous papers, blogs and websites; with news being reported as far away as mainland Europe!
DPAC Sheffield have teamed up with Author Karen Brady and now have a very well rounded, inclusive, campaign that literally anyone can take part in.
The current hashtag is #BigPowerOff3 on social media, add that to your posts about rising energy costs so that others taking part can find and share your posts.
How to take part:
Reduce your household energy usage where you can if you can do so without negatively impacting your health
Share your stories; send a short video or statement of how you’re being affected by the price rises to DPACSheffield@gmail.com
Take part in the mass Big Power Off* at 8pm on Friday 22nd April and 8pm each day until further notice
*Be sure to turn off devices at the plug and switch off each black switch on your fuse box before turning off the red power switch.

I have a neuromuscular disease that affects every part of my body and I’m becoming increasingly immobile. The warm homes grant is almost laughable now ? £120 per YEAR to supposedly take care of increased costs associated with increased needs associated with poor health. I HAVE NO, NONE,NADA, increase in my income. Many days I don’t get dressed because I can’t do it by myself but the help they say I need to maintain a reasonable daily life I can’t afford. So I just try and put as many layers as I can manage to keep warm.
