Dear DPAC, I am a student at the London Metropolitan University, studying for an MSc in Social Research. For my masters dissertation I am exploring people’s motivations for participating in protests, and am looking to interview people who have had experiences of protest actions within the UK. I was on the lookout for unique voices, which is when I came across DPAC following the Trafalgar Square protest in April. I have been following the group’s work ever since and talking to members of DPAC would definitely enrich my data and give my research a new dimension. The interview is completely anonymous and I am very serious and meticulous about protecting my interviewees’ identities. It lasts for less than an hour and comprises of easy questions based around experiences of protest organising, attending, watching etc – just a friendly chat over coffee. This is strictly an exploratory social research so my only pursuit is for knowledge. The transcripts of the interviews would only be handled by me, and the research will only be accessed as part of my degree assessment in the academic circles. A little bit about myself, I’ve been involved in grassroots LGBT activism for the last eight years and currently using my protesting experience to add value to my academic work.
