“I whole heartedly give my support to the Remploy workers. All of the claims about the cost are ridiculous, the comments about the quality of the work carried out by the workers is offensive and equally untrue and the Government’s supposed claim that closing these factories will ensure more disabled people get the chance to enter the unsupported workplace has so many holes in it that if it were a boat it would sink instantly. But in truth however much the goal of a fully inclusive workplace might be, we do not live in a society remotely ready and prepared to achieve this. The workplace is one of the least accessible environment’s in our society, whether in it’s physical structure or it’s work practices. Until these have been corrected, places like Remploy that support it’s workers are essential. All the move towards closure will do is increase the number of disabled people out of work, which apparently this government is so against.
Please reconsider this short sighted move and instead allow the workers to work together to grow the Remploy business model. Given the chance I am sure that the Remploy staff would turn the company into a major player in the UK’s manufacturing base, and I was under the impression that this kind of growth was another government aim.”
