Katie Tarrant is a researcher for BBC journalist Catrin Nye, who was behind the 2018BBC Panorama programme showing what it’s like to be on universal credit.

Catrin grew up on benefits in Wales and so she knows what it’s like to go through the system, but also knows that so often people with lived experience of poverty are left out of stories about the impacts of policy and ideas for solutions. She is writing a book, to be published by Simon and Schuster, about the reality of what it’s like to get the majority of your income/family’s income from benefits at every stage of your life. As such, she is looking to speak to people who are keen to share their stories to shape the book in a way that puts the vital perspective of people with lived experience first.

Is this something you might be able to help me with? Do you have any clients who would be keen to share their stories in a way that celebrates their voices, and with the rare condition that they’ll be speaking to someone in the media with lived experience of poverty, too?

Please call Katie on 07595 410 565 if you’d like to discuss what she is looking for, or the book itself, in further detail. She would need details for possible interviewees by the end of this month, if possible, please.

  1. I am interested to know more.

  2. Hi would you be interested in someone that has been on benefits 34yrs through having Lyme arthritis and asthma. I fought for nearly 5yrs to get mobility etc. cannot believe the farce. I now have no problems with getting my benefits now but it was a struggle.
