Another win for DPAC, Inclusion London and individual DPAC activists and their tenacity in the face of Tory attacks
Rather belatedly earlier this week Justin Torysnake, minister for disabled people met with ILF campaigners and confirmed that the government is to provide Local Authorities with four further years of transition funding for former ILF (Independent Living Fund) recipients, taking it up to the end of the parliament in 2020. This follows much campaigning by disabled activists.
At the moment no local councils seem to have been informed of this additional funding so we are suggesting anyone who should benefit from this funding contact their local authority to tell them about it and ask whether they will be ring-fencing it for its intended purpose.
On 10/02/2016 the Department for Communities and Local Government published a six-week consultation on the plans, which describes the funding it proposes passing on to local authorities over the four years from April 2016. Heather Milnes i am disabled and also care 24/7 for two oldies , so i have a good insight of all the crap treatment we have to put up with , from the unaccountable care mangers (all shit in the same pot) to the humiliation of going in front of Asos bullies , and on to the courts to prove yes i can not walk very well (wheel chair or stick ) i am a retired nurse of 37 years service , i will fight to my dieing day for the rights of others , id be so happy to help and support any of you guys ,,,
Are the Mentally Ill included in the disability arrangements you have made? I mean it’s not by accident we are viewed as being incapable of ooking after our own interests but I say again, it is unstable to take a person out of his environment to Shock him/her into sanity.
The Independent Living Fund was a fund to cover support for people with severe impairments. Securing this additional funding will simply enable councils to continue to support people who used to receive ILF Funding. Nothing will be imposed on anyone who is not seeking this support, and there is no suggestion of changing anyone’s situation without their wanting it. DPAC and ILF activists are not suggesting for one moment that people with Mental Health impairments should be taken out of their environment to “shock them into sanity”, and we would vehemently oppose anyone doing anything so reckless and wrong.
