Invitation to join the rights-based group, Liberation
Liberation is a grassroots organisation led by people with experience of mental distress/trauma (people often given a mental health diagnosis). We are calling for fairness and justice in law and policy and in society and its structures, so Liberation’s aim is to champion the full human rights set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). For full detail, see the information sheet included just below. (Smaller and large print copies are enclosed, together with an easy read version which People First kindly produced.)

Our key work right now includes campaigning against:
- Serious human rights shortfalls in the Mental Health Act Review recommendations; these will soon be the base for a White Paper
- Poverty, disadvantage and deprivation, now made worse still during the coronavirus pandemic
- The concerning levels of discrimination and hate crime which exist.
Please support us if you can. We welcome as members both individuals and organisations that support the UNCRPD:
- As direct members if you have personal experience of mental distress/trauma, or are an organisation led by people with this experience
- As an ally if you are disabled in other ways, or represent another type of user-led organisation,
- As an associate if you are a non-disabled person, or a non-user-led organisation.
You will then receive regular updates about Liberation’s work and opportunities to contribute to parts of it which particularly interest you. Just contact Dorothy Gould, Liberation’s founder, for a membership form, letting her know which of the above three descriptions fits you best.
