The UK government will be up in front of the UN Disability Committee next week on the 23 and 24 August answering questions on how far the UK Government is protecting and upholding the rights of Disabled people and implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

This is the first time the UK has been examined under the UNCRPD since the Government signed up to it in 2009. This routine scrutiny was originally due to take place in 2015 but was delayed due to the inquiry triggered by Disabled People Against Cuts and carried out by the UN disability committee which found reliable evidence of grave and systematic violations of Disabled people’s rights by the UK Government due to welfare reform.

Inclusion London and our sister ROFA organisations are part of a UK wide group of DDPOs going to Geneva to give evidence on the on-going retrogression and violation of our rights and the failure to implement the UNCRPD.

Not going to Geneva? You can still get involved!

  1. Just how many more deaths directly related to benefit withdrawal does there need to be before our country wakes up to the fact that this Tory government are not giving human beings less fortunate their basic human rights or needs. The Tory government has literally blood on its hands because its knowingly suppressing the evidence of deaths by suicide and other means due government imposed systems the DWP and its outside contractors impose on the weakness and most vulnerable in our society. What sort of society have we become where people die because the system just doesn’t care.

  2. yes ,the conservatives have committed genocide, with power comes responsibility to protect the most vulnerable and scapegoating them for the financial crisis is a crime.whist the perpetrators the banks and bankers get billions in quantitative easing. a reward for failure those people at the d.w.p.who fed the right wing media, with propaganda and lies saying disabled people on disability benefits.were feigning injury , too lazy to work are also complicit in all of this.when my d.l.a.was stopped i wrote to my m.p. the D.W.P.tried to use parts of my letter to her against me in its submissions to the tribunal.i am wondering whether the U.N DISABILITY has any teeth? other than publish another report? duncan smith, and all in the government responsible should face trial in the human rights courts.

  3. The Conservatives Welfare Reforms, have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with helping people into work and EVERYTHING about stopping people recieving the benefits they ARE entitled to!

Under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we have rights that have been (and continues to be) violated!

    For example:

Article 4; No one should be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all forms.

Yet not only is slavery on the increase in this country, the Conservative Party in government, is FORCING people (including the sick and disabled), to work for companies, (some of which pay no income tax), for no wages whatsoever!

Article 8. Everyone has the right to an effective remedy by competent national tribunals for acts violating the fundamental rights granted him by the constitution or by law!

Yet under the Conservative government, if you lose your job, this callous government has introduced a £1,500 charge, to take a ex-employer they feel wronged by, to a Industrial Tribunal! Most people will not be able to afford this, especially when they are being denied the fundamental right of unemployment benefit!

    Article 10. See above.

Article 12. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, not to attacks upon his honour hand reputation! Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks!

Yet the Conservative government, is allowing interception of e-mailed and social networks (such as Facebook etc), to justify the persecution of people so as to deny people their fundamental right of unemployment benefit!

Article 17. a) Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others!
    b) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property!

Yet the Conservative government, is cleansing people out of their homes and Community through the criminal legislation of the Bedroom tax!

    And importantly!

Article 22. Everyone, as a member of society, has the right to social security and is ENTITLED to realization, through national effort and international co-operation and in accordance with the resource of each State, of the economic, social and cultural rights indispensable for his dignity and the free development of his personality!

Yet the Conservative government, has brought in policies such as Work Capability Assessments (WCA), that have been consistently reported to be using flawed, underhand methods and down right lies, as justification to find a clearly unfit person, fit for work and thus his benefits stopped! If they starve, then let them starve is the Conservative attitude! Forced to beg for food at Food Banks, Food Banks which the last Prime Minister is quoted as saying, is a symbol of how the ‘Big Society’s works!

Article 23 a) Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment!

Yet the Conservative government, is forcing people to work for no wages, or zero hour contracts, short term contracts or lose their unemployment benefit!

Article 23 c) Everyone who works, has the right to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family, an existence worthy of human dignity, and supplemented, if necessary, by other means of social protection!

Yet the Conservative government, TOLD people that got jobs, that the pathetic wages they received, would be supplemented by enhanced benefits that they could keep………and then took it away from them! They are also FORCING people to work for zero hours contracts or lose their benefits!

Article 25. Everyone has a right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood beyond his control!

Yet over a million Food parcels are being given out EVERY YEAR, through late benefit payments or sanctioning, though the Conservative government refuses to accept any connection???

10 violations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which the UK government are signatories to!

These welfare reforms, have resulted in thousands of suicides, and they Conservative government has tried everything, to withhold information being disclosed of the deaths their policies are WHOLLY responsible for!

We have EVERY RIGHT under Articles 2 & 4, of the Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, to hold EVERY SINGLE individual responsible for this crime against humanity; From Job Centre staff and management, (who have literally had the power of life or death in their hands and have callously enjoyed this power), Lords, ministers and civil servants in an international court of law for the persecution and deaths of hundreds of thousands of people!!! and

    And we DEMAND IT!!!
