MP  and DPAC supporter John McDonnell’s Early Day Motion 295 against the system of the WCA and Atos has 111 signatures , not one of them Conservative, what a surprise. It says:

That this House deplores that thousands of sick and disabled constituents are experiencing immense hardship after being deprived of benefits following a work capability assessment carried out by Atos Healthcare under a 100 million a year contract; notes that 40 per cent of appeals are successful but people wait up to six months for them to be heard; deplores that last year 1,100 claimants died while under compulsory work-related activity for benefit and that a number of those found fit for work and left without income have committed or attempted suicide; condemns the International Paralympic Committee’s promotion of Atos as its top sponsor and the sponsorship of the Olympics by Dow Chemical and other corporations responsible for causing death and disability; welcomes the actions taken by disabled people, carers, bereaved relatives and organisations to end this brutality and uphold entitlement to benefits; and applauds the British Medical Association call for the work capability assessment to end immediately and to be replaced with a system that does not cause harm to some of the most vulnerable people in society.

  1. A few months ago I was going through the list of edms. I found John McDonnell’s EDM295 and started a campaign to get people to email there MP. When I first started he only had 14 signatures. now over 100. this proves it works and works well.
There are a few more EDM’s that could do with our help and all it takes is a simple search in google to find them.
here is a link to a few that could do with our help http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2012-13/by-topic/67274/benefits-policy
Please go back to your forums and blogs and ask people to email, write there MP and get them to sign.
    Thank You
    Phil 🙂

  2. Hmmmm……….. can anyone hire ATOS to find them ways of saving money (like, not paying taxes to ‘government’ or ‘interest’ to bankers)?

  3. Eric Olllerenshaw (conservative) so I very much doubt there will be anything that comes from requesting this, I have had replies on numerous occasions from himself and they all beat around the bush and you never get a direct answer.

  4. We are currently underwhelmed by Stephen Metcalf (CON) who appears to want to be David Cameron so no chance of him signing anything other then his expenses form. Emailed him anyway, I’ll look forward to the usual patronising, fob them off quick with some bovine excrement reply. NOT.

  5. Just sent my own version to Shrewsbury MP. Wonder if anyone else has. He is a Conservative, and I asked that he sign and ask all MPs to sign it too! we`ll see…

  6. Not a chance in hell for me, Oliver Letwin is my local mp (conservative, west dorset) need I say more?

  7. Unfortunately the good people of Northampton have a right wing high flyer, in Michael Ellis [ con ] whose voting record like his predecessor Sally keeble, the 100% Blairite, posh, privileged, elitist of expenses, is disgusting, he doesnt sign EDM,s nor would the Tory in the Red Coat Keeble sign it either.

  8. Well, I’ve sent a third email to my MP asking why she hasn’t signed yet!
