case study of this situation. My friend I shall call J. I’ve met her on holiday, then we’ve arranged
to go on holiday at the same time and the same place (respite
adventure centre) for several years, as we’ve got on well and have a
similar mindset. She’s a wheelchair user with communication difficulties (uses a
talker, slowly), needs assistance with various tasks. She’s highly
intelligent and very knowledgable / astute.
Having been abandoned by her family (to cut a long story short) she
ended up in residential care; first a residential school then a
nursing home. She experienced all the frustrations common to such
environments, which I know so well.
As such I found her more than somewhat a kindred spirit when I
expressed frustration and disbelief at some of the things to which I
was being subjected in the care home. She knew better than anybody
else what it’s like to be a rights-thinker in residential care, so to
speak.
She got out of res care. Bucking the trend, she did so whilst she was
still alive – as we know, most people only “escape” res care feet
foremost! With the substantial assistance of one of the workers, who
she took with her and who by her account is a rather marvelous and
unusual person, she moved into her own bungalow, arranged direct
payments and now lives independently. An amazing achievement given the
institutional barriers on top of the other barriers she experiences as
a disabled person.
She’s been living in her own bungalow now for I think over 15 years.
She would not have been able to achieve that without ILF. ILF has now
been shut to new applicants for a couple of years. So the sad thing
is, other people won’t be able to follow in her footsteps; even if
they overcome all the other barriers to getting out of res care, ILF
is no longer around.
What is even sadder is that J now faces the possibility (I would say
probability) of being forced to move back into residential care. There
is to be a decision on what happens with regard to existing ILF claims
after the next couple of years. We don’t know what’s going to happen
with that, which leaves J in an incredible situation of uncertainty
about her future life. I also strongly suspect that the decision will
be that ILF will be withdrawn.
This, together with the cutting of council social services that we are
all know about (a la Southampton), leads to potentially disastrous
consequences for J. In a sobering moment, J told me that she hopes she
dies before she has to go back into residential care.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

BROKEN BRITAIN UNDER TORIES – WHAT HAS CHRISTMAS BROUGHT US .
Omitting the weather the heat has been steadily turned up on the less unsuspecting public by an immoral corrupt Government and their non -committed opponents .At present the temperature is moderate to what next year will bring .Politeness and arguments for and against Government policy have been lossed in a wave of sheer bloody mindedness on their part ,backed by an indifferent or gagged media .Cameron and his criminalised Chipping Norton Set ,headed by Charlie and Rebekah Brooks will be enjoying their Christmas oblivious to the despair and misery brought to bear upon the public by their lust and greed for power .Ian Duncan Smith the ex arms dealer will be going to Mass as usual to be absolved for his sins .Grayling will be relaxing ,not thinking of any future decisions because policy to an habitual liar comes naturally whatever the outcome .Blair will still be ageing prematurely due to his traitorous actions .E Milliband might be having a reflection period over how he may in future present himself as genuine after stabbing his brother in the back for the leadership of the Labour party .Ed Balls might wake up to the fact that after plotting to rob the pension fund with Brown and succeeding he is responsible for the misery inflicted on pensioners expecting a better life in retirement .Shelbrooke will be looking forward to his benefit card scheme’s second reading in January 2013 .Freud the Fraud will be fine tuning his scheme to rob benefit claimants of money through his management scheme designed to ‘help’ poor money managers .Lord Best led stout opposition to the Bedroom Tax but sadly to no avail .As for the rest of them they will no doubt absolve themselves of all blame ,because they were ‘following orders ‘.Being unbiased I must mention the Liberals ’mentioned’.I was always taught to treat people as they treated me ,that is a Universal Moral Law untouched by Corruption .Conform otherwise starve but show no respect to Government lap dogs they do not deserve it .Try and have a break over Christmas but let’s have some action plans for 2013 .TC KB Nigel http://www.brokenbritainundertories.com
It makes your realise the sociopathic nature of the people of pure greed who are doing this. No empathy, no care. Lies and deciet make up their daily diet. They care little about the suffering of others
The Condems have an abattoir attitude to the sick and disabled. They know full well what their policies are doing to us but choose the McDonalds cheerful adverts approach in ignoring any notion of suffering and pain and that the deaths of animals and people are entirely justified to please their following and customers.
Do they not understand what a help and support the ILF are to disabled ppl and the care that we are able to have, without their help I would not be able to live and exist without the support from the ILF. I do not know how I can cope without their support.
well I guess you can CON sum of the people some of the time but eventally
when they realise what is going on they will DEMonstrate their dissatisfaction
by voting you both out
That is appaling. It is a decision that could only have been taken by rich millionaires who as well as not knowing the price of milk neither understand or care how their actions will affect others. What is PCS though? I know ILF but not PCS.
I only hope these people leading our country get pushed out by their own greed when the general public begins to see how greedy they are, ignoring huge tax evasion by major companies and giving tax benefits to the wealthy (they pay less tax from April 2013 I believe) whilst making the poor pay for their defecit.
They are certainly are appropriatly named though, the Condems do condemn the disabled.
“Defending Council Housing” Dave Anderson MP “Dave’s letter reads:” “I am writing to let you know about some of the changes the Conservative Party plan to bring in if they form the next government. Their plans would end the right of council tenants to a secure tenancy and massively increase rents. The Tories want to increase rents for council tenants to the same level as private rents. The average council rent in England is £61.63. The average private rent is £132.46.”
No one, but no one has the right to deny any person, wether they are disabled or not, the right to live an independent life. I’m not disabled, so have very little insight into the work and support of the ILF. I’m so angry with this government for the stress & fear they are causing so many people who just want to make the best of their lives regardless of what restrictions they are under, be they disability, financial or mental health issues.
I really believed this couldn’t get worse but ILF? As a parent it was something i hoped to access in the near future for my son as its amazing in its freedom. I know families who already have it with their my safe home properties and to face losing it all its unthinkable. A xmas full of fear is ahead so so sad
